TV show requests going around again

I recently received an email from a joseph.john@zigzag.uk.com asking for phone interviews for a supposed documentary on otherkin; if you're at all findable as 'kin (such as listed in a directory) you may have as well. (post on 'Kin Speak on tumblr if you haven't seen it) As usual, I advise exercising caution if you choose to get in contact; according to Shangrila on the Werelist forum, the company is working with the tabloid National Enquirer (for a different show entirely, but doesn't speak well of their taste in partners or content).

Someone on 'Kin Speak suggested that if we want a documentary to be out there, otherkin should make our own, which I think is a pretty neat idea. Since these sorts of inquiries are coming round fairly regularly these days, maybe it's time?

Odd, the medicine man I do a blog for has had a sudden resurgence in interest in a 'mysterious hole' he knows of. He's already done a TV and a radio interview just in the last couple of weeks. He's been interviewed in the past several times about it, but not for several years. I don't believe in coincidence anymore, tho it is a convenient shorthand word for such things.

I think the word you are looking for is "synchronity"

Even if we do our own, I don't see a positive outcome. If we put it out there, we'd still have to find a company willing to publish it, and it would get edited into the same sensationalistic crap that sells. I just don't see a scenario where this would work for educating the public, or really even a scenario where trying to educate the general public would be a positive thing. We've had far more success in the past by targeting pagan groups than the general public at large.

If you do your own you can distribute it online, like other very independent films and documentaries have done. Or create a webseries. Eventually as it becomes known or is advertised, the public will become aware of it.

But it would require having the equipment and crew and even a small budget to make it.

I got the same email, mmhhhm.

Sure we could make our own ~ there are a lot of pros and cons for it, but having kin make it wouldn't automatically = good quality that represents everybody in a way that we're all happy with. Sadly.

I think I'm actually more scared of kin making it than I am of sensationalist studios making it.
